When I try to print from Word, I get the message "The printer has not yet
responded but the program may be able to proceed without printer information
Do you want to continue to wait for the printer?" If I select yes it hangs,
No gives me a print screen without the default printer and recycles the
process if the default is selected. I am running XP SP2 with MS Office
Professional 2003. Prints from all other Office applications except Word. I
have updated drivers and firmware for the printer and reinstalled MS Word
from scratch. Now at the buffers.
Has anyone seen this before? Can anyone help?

Sorry, you’ve landed in a MacWord group (not your fault, one of the web
interfaces is *very* badly designed). You might get an answer from the
people here who use both Windows and Mac, but you should try asking your
question on the general Word newsgroups. Start here:

Hiya,
just in case you wold come back... Word needs some printer to be set
as default, it rely on it. I think this info is stored in registry, so
no word reinstall would help. I would try:
go to Click Start>Settings>Printers and Faxes
Delete the *affected* printer
add any printer - Click "Add Printer" ago through the wizard and add
any printer for example *HP*
Then make the HP as default
reboot PC
see if Word has accepted the HP printer
if so, just go to Click Start>Settings>Printers and Faxes and add the
yours one and make it as default.
