How do I read .wpd with Word 2004 for the Macintosh?
Clive Huggan - 17 Aug 2007 04:01 GMT
Dataviz's MacLink Plus (www.dataviz.com/products/maclinkplus/) is an
excellent application for reading/converting all sorts of file formats.

But hang around -- someone else might know something else more specific to
WordPerfect.

The Windows version of Microsoft Word used to be shipped with WordPerfect
filters. I'm not sure how reliable they are, and I'm not sure if they're
still available in the 2007 edition of Microsoft Office. Also, Open Source
software such as AbiWord can read this file format, but it does not support
any of WordPerfect's advanced features.

Actually, PC Word still does include some - but it depends on how far back
the version goes. If you have access to a Windows computer (or a Mac still
running Word 98 or Word 2001) you might try opening the doc in Word 2000,
2003 or 2007 (stay away from 2002 -XP- except as a last resort:-)), then
Save AS and select Word 97/2003 format in the Save As dialog. That copy
should be directly usable in 2004.

There are also some of the older WP filters available on MVP Graham Mayor's
web site, but I believe they only work with PC Word. If have access to a PC
that doesn't already have the filters you can download them at the bottom of
this page:

http://gmayor.com/downloads.htm

Otherwise, Clive's suggestion - MacLink Plus Deluxe - is the most effective
& reliable tool on the market. Unless this is a one-time-only need the
program is well worth the price:-)

True - as long as you don't mind providing a copy of your files to an
uncertified stranger on the web.
