I inserted a watermark using the 'background > printed watermark' facility.
I now can't remove it. The watermark isn't attached to a header or footer.
I get the background > printed watermark > no watermark' dialogue box as
expected, except it doesn't cause any change. Thanks
Even if it is not located in the header/footer, it is anchored there.
Make the header/footer active and you should be able to select and
delete the watermark.
However, the printed watermark may be different, and perhaps you can't
even see it in the document. In that case, sorry, you’ve landed in a
MacWord group.
You might get an answer from the people here who use both Windows and
Mac, but you should try asking your question on the general Word
newsgroups. Start here:

I tried this workaround but there wasn't a link between the watermark and
the header / footer. With a bit of digging elsewhere on the newsgroups I
found the solution: activating the drawing toolbar then the 'select' arrow
allowed me to highlight the watermark as though it were an 'object' then
delete it. Deleting one, deleted them all the way through the document.
The puzzling bit is why did the usual background > print watermark not work
when, to the best of my knowledge, I didn't do any non-standard procedure?
