I have literally been searching the internet for hours trying to
figure it out. It is the autocorrect border that appears when you type
=== and return. I know how to get rid of it if you undo in that
moment, but I can't get rid of it now that it's already there!!
have also tried "view formatting" which works on my pc laptop, but on
this darn thing, it just gives you this stupid little square, that you
can point at FONTS and it'll tell you what it's formatted as. it
doesn't show all the paragraph signs and what not.

Hello [whoever],
I'm sure we can help you here, but it will help if you could mention your
version of Word, and operating system, as there are so many versions.
By the way, if you are on a Windows OS: You've landed in a discussion group
for users of Mac versions of Word, which are subtly (and sometimes not so
subtly) different from the PC versions. There are several people here who
are experts in both Mac and PC, and they will probably come by soon, but if
you're in a hurry you're likely to get quicker results in a discussion group
for PC Word. Start here:
http://www.microsoft.com/office/community/en-us/FlyoutOverview.mspx, and
when posting mention the specific version you're using, such as Word 2003.
Cheers,

Select the line and the space around it and use Format | Borders and
Shading to set No Border.
View Formatting does not bring up the paragraph marks on a PC either, I
don't think--try hitting the ¶ on the standard or formatting toolbar, I
forget which, to show nonprinting characters (which won't help with the
border anyhow).

My obsequious apologies for my failure to infer that from your ambiguous
post.

The autocorrect applies a bottom border to the previous paragraph, so
you can eliminate the border by selecting the paragraph, and using the
Formatting Palette's Border and Shading pane to delete the border (or
select the paragraph and choose Format/Borders and Shading to delete the
border)

If you're talking about the View/Reveal Formatting menu option,
clicking on a paragraph with the bottom border will show that a border
is applied in the popup.
You can prevent this from happening by choosing
Tools/AutoCorrect/AutoFormat As You Type, and unchecking the Borders
checkbox in the Apply as you type section.

THANK YOU. It doesn't work to highlight the paragraph (perhaps I
wasn't highlighting correctly) but simply having the cursor in it,
then going to format> borders worked.
