My neighbor asked me for help with her word program.
Some how...... she set something that puts a solid
black box across the screen when she tries to type
in some text.By that I mean its about 2 sizes bigger
than the text charactors and it goes all the way from
left to right. After typing some text, which you cant see,
you have to click away from the text to get rid of the
black box and then you can see what you typed.
I tried hard to come up with the cause but I
could not figure out what is wrong.

 Help please,Dale

Hi Dale -

In order to suggest how to proceed we need more info:

What specific version of Word?

What specific version of Mac OS?

A bit more about the type of Mac may also be useful.

Although it's great that you "tried hard" it would be helpful to know
exactly _what- you tried:)

When you say "all the way from left to right" - edge-to-edge of the page,
margin-to-margin, first-to-last character typed?

Is this in one specific document or does it happen in new blank documents as
well? Is this actually a _box_ or just a black highlight?

No problem - seems to happen quite a bit:)

You might try:

Microsoft.public.word.docmanagement

Or

Microsoft.public.word.applicationerrors

Good Luck |:>)

My tip is if it could be overwriting (Ins button) switched on. In the
old days the solid square always indicated overwriting, but it's so
long... not sure if it was in 98 :)

Yes, it WAS in Word 98 :-)
