I am currently working on my thesis and spent yesterday writing.
Today, my plan was to continue working where I left off and when I
opened my MS Word file it became immediately obvious that the work I'd
done yesterday was gone. I have been backing my information up on a
flashdrive and can only think that somehow I copied the older version
from my flashdrive to my hard drive and then back again. The point
is, I lost an entire day of work and was wondering if there is anyway
to get back (revert) to where I had left off yesterday - or is this
information gone forever? I greatly appreciated any assistance...

If you really copied the old file, it's likely gone forever. If you had
the Always Create A Backup option set (File/SaveAs/Options...) then you
may be able to find a "Backup of ...." file on one drive or the other.
