Mac OSX uses F12 as the Widget - When I assign F13 to the 'FILESAVEAS'
command in customize keyboard, it works fine until we quit Word.  Then F12 is
set again as the default.  We are sure that we are saving and assigning F13
each time.  Is there any help for this symptom?

Possibility 1--there is something special about function keys that Word
doesn't like. (I don't have an F13 and can't test this exact scenario)

Possibility 2--Word is not saving your Normal template for some reason,
and since that is the default location for keyboard shortcuts, this
assignment is vanishing.

Can you create any other keyboard shortcut, not involving function keys,
and see if it is saved when you quit?

Also, if you are getting a message about "save the Normal template?" on
quit, say yes.

Thanks for responding...  I knew it had to do with Normal template.  I am
getting a message that says it is UNABLE to save the Normal template for some
reason.  This is a new occurence.  Also, we have 4 other Macs that are saving
the F13 key for FILESAVEAS so this is a problem with only one machine.  Is
there a way to delete the templates and start over?

Thanks,  Bob

With Word CLOSED, delete the file "Normal" (no quotes, no extension) in
the

   ~:Documents:Microsoft User Data

folder (where ~ is the account's home directory).

As far as the F13 key, it may just be that it is assigned to an OS operation
which Word can't override on startup. Take a look at System Prefs>Keyboard &
Mouse - Dock, Expose & Dashboard... "All Windows" is the most likely
culprit. Remove the check there & Word should be able to hold the
assignment.
