Hello - please help!  I use a Mac laptop for work.  My account was set
up as an admin account.  however, when I try to open Microsoft Word
(or any other Microsoft Office software) I get the following message,
"You cannot open the application "Microsft Word" because it is not
supported on this architecture."  In order to get this problem
resolved through my employer's IT department I will have to travel and
leave my computer for a couple days, which I would like to avoid.
Does anyone know why this is happnening and what I might do to be able
to access the software that I know is on this computer and my employer
wanted me to be able to access?

It sounds to me as though the Power PC Rosetta translator is not running.
Either that, or they have installed a PC version of Microsoft Office, which
expects you to run Windows first.

On a new Intel Mac, you can dual-boot into Windows.  But unless you are
running Parallels, you need to shut down Mac OS X to do so.  Then run
Windows, then the PC applications can start.

Microsoft Office 2004 for the Mac is a Carbon application that requires the
Rosetta translator to run on an Intel Mac.

Hope this helps

Thank you - I will try this.  I appreciate the advice.
