My son was using word, when he went into symbols and was inserting
various symbols suddenly the screen went black and white negative. He
said it was the infinity symbol he was inserting when this happened.
It effects all applications and the desk top. It's like a filter has
been put over it. When we go to change user that is not effected, and
the other users are uneffected by this 'filter'. I have tried many
things to put it back to it's normal look, with no success. Help!!!

See Apple Menu | System Preferences | Universal Access | Seeing to
change this mode. It's not a Word thing at all, it's part of OS X--but
I believe you can set a keyboard shortcut to trigger it in any program,
and that sounds like what happened.

The shortcut is command-alt-Ctrl-8
