I have a document in A4 that I would like double up on to one sheet of A4
making two A5 copies. I have no idea how to print this - there must be a
simple command that will let me do it?

To posible solution occours my mind:

1. do it in printer driver
Do apple+P to print it, in the dialog in combo box  select *layout* and
define 2 pages per sheet

2. Use cocoa booklet for imposing. You can create booklets with it for free:
http://fabien.iconus.ch/cocoabooklet/

In this particular case - assuming you have just 1 page you'd like to  print
2 pages per sheet you could duplicate your page in word, print it in PDF and
then use cocoa to impose it - because it is just 2 pages long document you
will get the same result as if used the process described in option 1.

But it would be wasting of cocoa's capabilities in this particular case, but
still it's option :-). You will appreciate if when creating big and complex
booklets.
