I have updated all the way up to 10.1.9 and it will not let me go any
further. I try 'save as' and 'save' but nothing seems to work. Anyone
have any idea?! It would be greatly appreciated.

Look carefully at where Word is trying to save to. Navigate in the
Finder to the same place, do a get info to see who owns the folder and
what rights you have to write there.
I remember getting caught more than once trying to write to a CD!!

You might try chopping the problem in half by creating another user
account and seeing if that User's view of Word lets it save.

One more thing. Do you get any warning when opening the file you later
try to save? Like "Open Read Only? Cancel or Allow? ;-)
