Just purchased a new imac and all software was transferred from
previous mac - now cannot open and work on any of the Office products
- even after reinstalling and updating latest downloads. ??

There's your problem: You "transferred" the software...

That seems to screw things up impenetrably, because you didn't first
uninstall the very toxic Test Drive.  So now you have two versions of
everything on your new computer, one you didn't know you had...

Sorry about that: it's really bad software engineering, but we now have to
cope with the result.

OK:

1)  Re-install the Test Drive version, by doing a Drag-and-drop install from
the folder to your Applications folder.  Do not run any of the applications
until I tell you (we do not want anything creating any new preference
files).

2)  Run the Remove Office utility you will find incorporated in the Test
Drive software.

3)  Empty the Trash and Reboot the machine.

4)  Get your Office CD and do a drag-and-drop installation of the Office
software.  It appears that it's not wise to do a "transfer" from a PPC Mac
to an Intel Mac.  The preferences are very different, and you will get
problems.

5)  Don't start any of the Applications -- run the Remove Office application
from the one you just installed.  Allow it to remove any versions of Office
that it finds: you want to get EVERYTHING out.

6)  Empty the Trash and Reboot again.

7)  Now do another drag-and-drop installation of Office from the paid-for
CD.  This should ensure you have only one copy of every file on the new
machine.

8)  Apply the 11.3 and 11.3.3 updates to Office.

9)  Now copy your Entourage Database over from your old machine to your new
Microsoft Office User Data folder.  Just the latest copy will do, not the
backups.

10)  NOW if you open each of the Office applications they should work!

Sorry about that: lots of people seem to be getting hit by this one.

Cheers
