I use MS Word on my Mac and have never had a problem until now.

Here's the problem:  I can launch the program, but when I try to open a
document, I get a spinning beach ball and have to force quit because
the program is not responding.  I've restarted a bunch of times to no
avail.  I think I have to re-install MS Word, but I don't know how.
I have office:mac 2004 student/teacher edition.  Can someone tell me
what I should do, exactly, step-by-step.  I don't want to reinstall
office, just Word.  I mean really talk me through what I have to do?

Many, many thanks

Hi Mel,

You'll find a step-by-step ("Remove & Reinstall Office") on this page:
<http://word.mvps.org/mac/TroubleshootingIndex.html>

But ... before you do the removal/reinstallation, consider other
possibilities first.  Most of them are listed on the above page.  For
instance, try testing your Word preferences and your Normal template.  Also
check for third-party add-ins.  In fact, you would be well advised to start
from the top of that page and work your way down.

Come back here with specific questions if you get into trouble.

Hi Mel,

a re-install may not be necessary; try the solutions mentioned on this
website first: <http://word.mvps.org/Mac/TroubleshootingIndex.html>

If that doesn't solve the problem, post back and give us some more details.
For instance, do you actually use Microsoft Entourage? Word relies on
Entourage's database, and if that one gets corrupted, a re-install of Word
will not solve any problems.

Good luck!
