Actually, I don't know if it's necessary to remove the 2004 Test Drive at
all, unless you're installing the full version of 2004! Installing the full
version of Office X should be irrelevant to the 2004 Test Drive.
To drgooply: I agree that updating to 2004 is a good idea; it's a much
better version. However, if you decide not to do so, you should be able to
have Word X be your default version via the following procedure:
Click once on a Word document to select it and do a Get Info (Cmd>i). In
the Open With section, use the popup menu to select Microsoft Word X. If
you don't see that option listed, click Other and navigate to it in the
finder. Once you've selected it, click the Change All button.
Note: I sometimes find that I have to do this procedure a second time
before it sticks.

Thanks, people for your help. I guess I'll go forward and install
Office 2004. Tell me this: if I install the full version of Office
2004, after deleting the Test Drive, (before? or after?) what do you
suggest I do with Office X, which is previously installed on my Hard
Drive. Should I keep it? Or uninstall it?
Office 2004 might be an improvement, by the way, but the Help Menu
within the program is just as hopelessly unhelpful as ever. The
results to a search for a term are always laughably useless and
inappropriate.
That's what this forum is for!
Thanks

If you intend to install 2004:
Remove the Test Drive *first*, but it is a part of the installation
procedure, you don't have to do it as a separate step, and
Whether you leave X installed is up to you, but you have no need for it. If
you are installing the *upgrade* to 2004 I believe that choice also is
handled during the installation process.
The Help in 2004 isn't much better than what was in X, but at least it's
[pretty much] version specific :)
BTW - as a reminder, make sure you remove Test Drive with the Remove Office
Tool utility, don't just drag the folder to the Trash. If the process isn't
'crystal clear' to you take a look here:

And repairing permissions via Disk Utility before and after doing the
installation is a good practice (as with any software installation in OS X).
