Though my older word documents send fine in emails, any word documents
created in the last few months send as binary files in attachments.  Am
I missing some updates, or is my Word corrupted?  I don't understand
why only the more recent documents aren't attaching correctly.  I have
Word 2004- student/teacher edition on an iMac 10.4.7.  I've already
uninstalled and re-installed word, deleted (I think) all of the
corrupted Word documents, and nothing has changed.
Any suggestions??

Hi, which email cllient do you use?  It might be problem in encoding. If you
use Entourage there when you compose an email and add and attachement bellow
attachement is option which control the encoding. What do have set there?

Hi Adrienne -

You don't specifically mention which build you're currently at with Word,
but the current update level is 11.2.6 - If not yet at that level you might
want to get updated (make sure to do the 11.2.5 *first* if necessary).

Your email software shouldn't be able to tell the difference between a doc
created in Word 6 thru 2004 (or 97 thru 2003 on the PC side for that matter)
since the file format is the same for all... unless there is something
telling it otherwise. Make sure that you *are* saving as Word Document
(.doc) & if you are attaching to PC users be *absolutely* certain that the
filenames include that extension - there is a provision for doing so in the
Save As dialog by way of a simple checkbox. You may also want to use Disk
Utility to Repair Disk Permissions, although I don't think that is the
issue - but it can't hurt.

I've discovered this same "problem" today.  I'll try the append check
option.
