Notebook view consistently crashes when closing a second document

I am using the most update version of Word 2004 on a Powerbook G4 using
OS X 10.4.7. When recording audio and taking notes with Notebook view,
it will crash on whim, occasionally. But if I open a regular Word
document and then close that second document, then Word will hang up.
Forcing quit and reopening it may or may not recover the text and
audio. This is unacceptable performance. Until I find a solution, I
will be taking notes in AppleWorks and recording with QuickTime. Is
anyone else experienceing this behaviour with Word 2004? Any solutions?

Since the crashes are intermittent, there is probably a conflict or
corruption somewhere. Check your preferences, your Normal template and
potential third-party/global template issues first. All are described via
the link above.
