Making old Word version default

Hi
I've just upgraded to a MacBook Pro.  It came with a trial version of the
new Office suite which I've decided not to buy.  The problem is that now the
default application for opening .doc files is the new version and I have to
individually change each file back to the old version Word:mac 10.0.0

How can I make the old version the default for all .doc files?  There is an
option, when I change each file, to change all... But this does not work.
When I click it I then get a dialogue box saying Are you sure...yada yada...
And when I click continue, even that file goes back to the new version as
default application

Thanks in advance,

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

First:  Repair disk permissions using the system's Disk Utility
(Applications>Utilities).  You should always do this after removing or
installing new software.

Now try to Change All again.  If it still doesn't work, post back.

Hi Beth

I'm afraid that did not work

Any other ideas?

Thanks

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

I just re-read your first post.  Did you ever remove the Office 2004 trial?
If you're sure you don't need it, use the Remove Office tool that comes with
it to uninstall it.  Do not just drag it to the trash!  When you're done
with that, repair disk permissions again.  Now try opening a Word doc.  If
necessary (and it shouldn't be), do the Change All procedure again.

Having done a Remove Office, I would recommend a "Reinstall" of the version
you want to actually USE.  The general rule is that the last one installed
takes over the system shortcuts.  Well, that's what's supposed to happen :-)

Hi Andrew:

Eeeewww....  I think I would go up, if I were you :-)

I think you will get all manner of "issues" trying to run Word 10.0.0 on a
MacIntel.

I am sure you can get away with it if you have a high tolerance for pain.
But the lack of Unicode support and lack of long file names will raise the
pain level quite "high" :-)

Cheers
