Problem Pasting Excel Charts in Word

I'm using Office 2004 on a MacBook. I have small charts in Excel that
are oriented side-by-side. When I want to place these charts in Word I
select them, choose copy, go into Word and do Paste Special, choose
Picture. The result is always that the left-hand chart displays and
prints, but the right-hand chart will neither display or print. To make
matters even more strange, when I select the pasted charts in Word I
can see the graphics handlebars outlining the area where the right-hand
chart should be. This problem happens whether or not the charts are
grouped in Excel before copying. My workaround has been to select the
charts and save as PIC files and inserting in Word, but I literally
have dozens of these chart pairs and that process is time consuming and
a pain.

Does anyone know what might be wrong? Can anyone replicate small
side-by-side charts and paste in Word as pic to see what happens?
Please help.

One thing I can think of that might cause this is how much space there is
between the 2 charts in XL. Since you're selecting 2 @ a time, the space
between them is also being pasted in and the separate charts with the space
between are being pasted as *1* picture. What you aren't seeing is the
portion that overruns the edge of the page. That gray space isn't work area,
so Word can't display what extends out there, so it has no choice but to
'lop it off'.

Can you move the charts closer together in XL - even for just a temporary
measure?
