i'm reworking a budget and each row is numbered in sequence. how can i
automatically create the numbers, avoid inserting numbers manually.
and, is there a way for the software to recognize a blank row so no
number is inserted.
thanks.

Just take the column you want numbered (it can be empty if necessary)
and hit the numbering button. Blank rows will still be numbered though.
If want to remove a number from a blank row then you would have to hit
the numbering button again and all subsequent rows will be renumbered
automatically.

Steve

Hi Roger:

I think you meant to post this in the Excel group.  If you didn't, that's
the application I suggest that you should be using, and the place I suggest
that you post this question :-)

Excel is made for this kind of service :-)

Word numbers paragraphs.  If you want to skip blank lines, make sure that
the thing you want to skip is actually a blank line, and not a new
paragraph.

In other words, use Shift + Enter to end the line above.  You will get a new
blank line without a number.

When you want a new number, hit just the Enter key, to end the previous line
with a paragraph mark.  You will get a new paragraph and a new number.

Cheers

this has been very helpful. and, you're right, i'm working in excel.
now i'm creating a new spreadsheet and want to insert numbers. can't
seem to get them started.

and, this seems to be an old styled newsgroup. is there a way to be
notified by email that someone has posted a reply. i saw only the
choice to receive what seemed like all the posts from the entire group,
or one a day. thanks!
