Is it possible to page up/down per screen of text (using the keyboard)
in the Page Layout view? It works as expected in Normal view.

(Using Word X)

I suspect that you are talking about the way Page Down goes about 2/3 of a
page and shows you about 1/3 page of text that you already read at the top
of the next screen.  I see this too (Word 2004, OS 10.3.9).

If that ISN'T your problem, please explain:

What are you using that works in Normal view but doesn't in Page Layout?
What are you hoping will happen, and what happens instead?

If that IS the problem, try using Cmd-Page Down and Cmd-Page Up.  These are
the default key assignments for BrowseNext and BrowsePrev, and should jump
you to the top of the next page.

This is equivalent to clicking the little double arrows at the bottom of the
scroll bar.  However, those double arrows are capable of browsing to any of
12 different settings, and for the arrows/keys to work, you have to make
sure the browse object is set to Page.  See here for an explanation of how,
with pictures:
http://daiya.mvps.org/browseobject.htm

That should do you.  Refinements, if you want tighter control:

You could choose your own custom keyboard shortcuts to trigger those double
arrows.

You could install a macro that makes sure the browse object is set to page,
and then triggers the double arrow, and assign a different custom keyboard
shortcut to that macro.

Yes, what you first wrote is what I was talking about. I would like to
use Page Down so that it starts with the  text at the bottom of my
screen, or repeats only a few lines (not necessarily the next page
number, so I don't think Browse by Page is what I want). This "next
screen" behavior is what happens in Normal view with Page Down. Maybe
Page Layout view won't work that way?'

Thanks...

Hi Andy,

I looked in Tools | Customize Keyboard, and under All Commands, there is
something called NextPage and PrevPage.

When Zoom is set to Whole Page, NextPage works much better than Browse by
Page did.  However, it does not seem to be a "next screen" behavior, so Zoom
would have to be set to Whole Page (which I find too small).  It doesn't
have a default key assignment, so you'll have to assign one if you want to
test it out.

I think Page Down is designed to be "next screen", and I don't think there
is anything we can do on our machines to calibrate it.  You could try
learning to think of it as an advantage, as it keeps the text you need to
read in the center of the screen.   :)  I am finding that the amount of
repeated text seems to vary with the zoom setting, and occasionally even
gets it perfectly right.  I'm on a 15-inch laptop, and the behavior was much
better at 125% zoom than at 150%.

Otherwise, I'm at the end of the road with this one, I think.

Anyone else?

Daiya
