Hello Thomas-

I played with this on the Mac for some time trying everything I could think
of to reproduce the problem & couldn't, so I fully agree with John that it
originates on the PC.

One thing that may help is to have the PC users send you copies of the PDFs
as well as the docs in which they're embedded. Apparently, however, that
isn't an option?

Are the PDFs embedded as Icons or as readable content? If the latter, have
you tried printing the doc, itself, as a PDF file, then opening it in
Acrobat to extract the content?

The usual way of doing that is pretty simple. Try it and see if it works.
Try to extract the AcroExch.Document.7 file on its own, to the desktop or
anywhere. If you can't, ask someone on a PC to send you one if they can or,
frankly, just make a bogus one by creating a copy of any file (simplest:
save a document from TextEdit) ad then change the extension on the file by
adding ".7". (When the OS checks that you really want to do this, confirm

Then do a Get Info on the file - right-click (or control-click) and choose
Get Info, or just select and press cmd-I. In the Info window, select Opens
With. choose  "Other..." and browse to Adobe Reader 7.0.x in /Applications.

Now all ".7" (what a stupid extension name Adobe chose, against all
conventions on Windows, Mac OS and Unix, even if they _think_ they chose
".Document.7") files will open with Adobe Reader. It _should_ work for the
embedded files too, but you'll have to test it to see.
