Trouble opening Word documents

Hi,

I suddenly experience problems opening documents written either in Word 98
or 2004. Some only show hyphens or other characters like ", ' and - instead
of the text. I reinstalled Word 2004 and made the latest update, but it did
not help. Interestingly, some documents open normaly irrespective of when
they were saved.

Thank you for your help

Serge

Hi Serge:

Reinstalling Microsoft Office on Macintosh almost always has no effect at
all, because the things that get broken are outside the Office folder and do
not get overwritten by a reinstallation.

Yours is probably a font problem.  The font used in "some" of your documents
may be damaged or unavailable.

Check disk permissions and run your font utility.  See:

Cheers
