I have used Microsoft Office 2004 since i got my computer, May of 2005,
and I have never had this problem up until now.

When I'm in Word (I haven't looked at it in any other Office program)
and I click Insert>Symbol and the Symbol window opens, I can see and
use all of the symbols except characters 128-159 (Unicode characters
61568-61599) and character 255 (Unicode character 61695). They all show
up as white question marks in black triangle boxes and when I try to
insert them, they show up as white rectangles on my Word page.

Any ideas?

Hi,

Thanks for bringing this up.

In Symbol dialog, characters 127-159 have always been blank characters (ie,
characters with no glyphs) in all Word versions. These were displayed as
blank characters in Panther.

In Tiger, Apple changed how they displayed blank characters which as you
described below looks like black triangle boxes with white question marks.
As Office picks up this notation from the OS, this changed how blank
characters are displayed in the Symbols dialog in Tiger OS.

Hope this helps!

Thanks,

Ritika [MSFT]
