Just taking my first hesitant steps in Word 2004.  I am dismayed to
find that it doesn't accept commands from the numeric keypad, unlike
Word 5 and 98 and 2001 before it.

I use the keypad constantly, for moving the insertion point, selecting
text, scrolling, and other high-frequency operations.

I've tried unlocking the keypad with shift+numlock, and
option+shift+numlock, but it still types numbers instead of issuing
commands.  Is there a way out of this frustration?   Most grateful for
help.

Hi JO -

Welcome to the 21st Century! I'm not sure this is as much to do with
the softweare as it is the OS. Although there may be a way around it,
my suggstion is that you use the dedicated Navigation Keys rather than
the Numeric Keypad. It doesn't take long to make the adjustment & can
help avoid some unpleasantries that might arise if the NumKeys were to
be used as NavKeys with certain modifier combinations.

Good Luck |:>)
