You've probably read John's post which just about tells the tale.
One last desperate compromise - try going into System Preferences>Dock &
remove the check to "Automatically Hide & Show the Dock". It should prevent
the Word window from extending any further down than the Dock's top edge.
You might also reposition one of the toolbars as Vertical & try to get used
to leaving it like that.

However, I don't get John's answer. Yes, with a small screen the Save dialog
might trigger the Dock. But I think John might not have noticed the part
about the hidden filename box.
The file name box should *never* be hidden, because it comes down from the
bottom of the titlebar of the document, so it should be not more than one
inch lower than the titlebar of the document (the filename box is always at
the top of the Save dialog). *If a toolbar covers the titlebar of the
document, then your toolbars are not properly docked.* Once the toolbars
are properly docked, then the titlebar will automatically sit lower than the
toolbars (not covered by the toolbars).
By filename box, I assume you mean the "Save As: [empty box]" at the top of
the dialog (just making sure).
By titlebar, I mean the top of the document window, the part that shows the
filename and the close/shrink/maximize (red/yellow/green) buttons.
To dock the toolbars, drag the thing at the left end and float it around
until it seems to sink into place (the "sweet spot") right under the upper
toolbar. My default has a little gap between the top of the titlebar and
the bottom of the toolbar, so don't try to move the titlebar right up to the
bottom.
I know CyberTaz already told you to dock the toolbars--try it again, or ask
if you don't understand what we mean, because I simply can't see any way
this isn't causing the problem of the hidden filename box in the save
dialog. His instructions were better than mine, you might go back to that
post.

Hi Daiya:
I noticed the complaint about the hidden file name box, but I wasn't sure
how he produced it.
I can reproduce it here by "undocking" the DOCUMENT. If I do, and then
slide the top of the document up behind the toolbars, the file name field is
hidden, and so is the document so he would not have been able to get things
back into place. The File Save As dialog appears to be opened relative to
the top of the document, not the bottom of the toolbars.
Cheers

Hi John,
absolutely, the Save dialog is relative to the top of the document--but if
the toolbars are in the right place, Word will automatically move the
document out of their way--e.g., I hid a doc under the toolbar but on
close/reopen it fixed itself.
I couldn't find a sweet spot for my document, so I figured fixing the
toolbar location was the way to approach this.
