Thanks, I see your reply.
My issue is that the checkbox on the status bar works very well but nothing
appears on the tab, no names, no numbers.
When I click on the tab trying to give a name to the tab, the cursor on the
tab appears extremely small and nothing happens no matter what I type. So my
tab is always blank...
And thank you for replying in both newsgroup^^

Sorry to say I¹ve not found any settings or controls that have impact on the
tabs at all, nor have I been able to create the situation in my copy of
Word. All attempts to edit & display the tabs work as expected, and even
changing the Zoom doesn¹t cause the tab names to reduce in size unless I go
all the way out to 10%.
Are there any other irregularities with Word that might possibly be related
to this issue? Even if it doesn¹t seem to stem from the same problem any
additional info might be helpful. I¹m thinking it may be a preferences file,
but it doesn¹t seem likely that the behavior should be isolated to the tabs
in Notebook Layout. Likewise, I can¹t think of anything System Prefs that
should effect those tabs only.
One harmless technique to try in the meantime Make sure Word isn¹t
running. Go to UserName | Documents | Microsoft User Data, and rename the
file called Normal (just rename it as OldNormal or something, but don¹t
delete it as yet). Then start Word (which will force it to create a new
Normal file) & see if that makes any difference.

Thanks for your info. It seems to me that everything works fine with my Word
apart from the notebook tab. And replacing Normal template makes no
change...anyway, I think I can do without the notebook layout function.
I¹m using Office 2004 v11.2 (I have updated it for several times) on Mac OS
X 10.4.4.
Thank you for your help.

I got exactly the same problem. It's questions of fonts. I'm deleted
some fonts, which I don't use and then this bug appears. I reinstalled
MS Office but it doesn' help. After few weeks I reinstalled the system
and then it's works correctly. I'm really sorry but I don't know which
kind of font is requested for this. Now I'm in the same situation
because I switched off all font which doesn't have accented character
and again I have the bug in myPowerBook.
HALLOOOOOOO, WHERE ARE YOU, MICROSOFT MAC SPECIALIST????

Thanks for narrowing it down to be a question of fonts, good to know.
See this thread for a list of some of the fonts that should not be disabled.

If you can figure out exactly which one it is (or narrow the possibilities),
I'm sure people here would appreciate knowing. Seems like trial and error
on your machine should get you that info.
By the way, reinstalling Office without removing it first pretty much does
*nothing*, as you found. That will always be true. See here re Remove and
Reinstalling Office. Also, Remove and Reinstall should never be the first
step in troubleshooting.
