I have an older mac (G3) running OS 9.1 and Office 98.

I'm trying to use wizards with Word 98 and each time when I click
finish word dies with a type 3 error.

I've looked around on the Microsoft web site and it's clear that this
is a known problem, and they have a fix called the "Memo-Resume Wizard
Updater 1.0" which should fix the situation by updating the Visual
Basic for Applications file to the correct (8.2) version.  I can find
several Knowledge Base articles (such as
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B181973
) that confirm this, but the links in them to the download of the
updater are broken.

I can even find the readmes for the darn updater (see:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B183362
), but I can't find the updater itself!

Can anyone tell me where the updater is, or how to get a copy, or
suggest another fix?  I can *not* upgrade my hardware or software at
this time, I need to work with what I have, a new machine and new
software is not in the budget until much later this year.

Hi can-do,

I get the same results as you trying to download the fix.  I will report
this to MSFT and try to get you an alternative URL as well.

In the meantime, have you updated Office 98 in general?  It's possible that
one of the other updaters (the Combined Updater, for instance) includes this
fix even though it is not specifically stated.  The MSFT download page for
Office 98 is here: <http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.aspx#Office98>.
Please post back if any of these updaters help and I will let you know
whatever I can find out.

Hi can-do,

I'm copying this directly to you in case you're no longer watching the
newsgroup.

I received the following response from Microsoft:

> The article has been republished.

> The new link points to a Combined Updater for Office 98 download. This

So you need to update with the Combined Updater as I guessed in my previous
post.

HTH,

Beth
