Hi Francis:
Hmmm... {Clutching at straws here...} Update QuickTime on your Mac.
Word actually has "nothing" to do with printing (on either the Mac or the
PC...). It simply hands the file over to the operating system's printing
subsystem and says "here, catch!". However, some components in use are
components of QuickTime.
That said, there is a major change between Word X and Word 2004. Word X
calls the "old" Mac printing routine, Word 2004 calls the "new" one. Word X
is limited to 16 bit colour, Word 2004 can do 32-bit colour.
This means that if the picture in question contains continuous-tone shades,
Word X will be "dithering" the output to approximate the colours.
Word 2004 printing problems tend to be of the "won't print at all" variuety,
I have never heard of it getting the colours "wrong". But if it were to
happen, I would suspect dithering to be the cause, and I would examine both
the number of colours in the image and the dpi setting of the image.
Try this: Fish that image out into a graphics program, re-save it as a GIF,
then put the GIF in in its place. Yes, it will ruin the picture, but the
"difference" will tell us a lot more about what's going on. GIF can contain
ONLY 256 colours, so we will see where the dithering is happening.
Sorry...

Hello,
The problem was solved by using printer driver of Mac OS X 10.3 (on OS X
10.4 setup). The driver inclued with 10.4 seem to be broken...

Thanks for getting back to us with this information, Francis! It helps us
to solve other people's problems more quickly in future.
Cheers,
