Word 11.2 and Mac OS 10.4.4

I can't see style "Footer" listed under the style name box in the
formatting toolbar.
All other Styles-in-use are listed (including "Header")

It is not listed even when viewing a footer and even though the style
has been applied. (although it does appear in the name box itself when
some text with that style is selected)

Similarly it is not listed in the list of styles in the formatting
palette but it is listed in the
       Format > Style > styles list (styles-in-use)

I've just discovered that choosing to list styles-in-use or all-styles
makes no difference.

The only styles in use are Normal, Footer, Header, Heading 1,2 & 3 and
all except Footer show in the toolbar style list (also listed are
Default Paragraph Font and Clear Formatting)

If I save the document as RTF then load this into TextWrangler I can
find data labelled "footer"
(as well as the others)

I've been fiddling around with this for so long now that I'm suffering
from a mental block - can anyone help please?

Replicating that here, MacWord 2004 and OS 10.3.9. Header shows up,
interestingly.  Same for both the Formatting Palette and the style dropdown
off the formatting toolbar.

What do you need it there for?

So, it's not that I have done something to 'lose' it. At least that is
reassuring.

Why do I need it? Well I wanted it yesterday to apply the 'Footer' style
to some text in a footer which was previously in 'Normal' style.

It's not a big issue. As 'Header' is there it would seem to be an
anomaly (bug?). There is always the Format > Style menu to fall back on.

There was a discussion some time ago, and I remember that people reached the
conclusion that "List: All Styles" on the Formatting Palette is slightly
misleading (i.e. buggy) as it doesn't show you all the styles that can be
found in Format>Style (among them the Footer style). Also, as you have seen,
this particular style doesn't even show up in the "Available Styles"
selection. And it obviously doesn't make sense for it not to be there, as it
is a style that, in my opinion, is frequently used, more frequently at least
than most styles in the "All Styles" section. And it really should be
visible as part of the "Available Styles" if you're using a footer in your
document, but it isn't for me, either. So don't worry, you're clearly not
the only one seeing this.
