Delete selected text not working in Word 2004

Hello -

I recently installed Word 2004 and have been adjusting the preferences
in keeping with the recommendations in "Bend Word to your Will".

For some reason, now when I select a block of text and hit 'delete',
instead of erasing the text the cursur just goes to the head of the
text and the text unselects (ie, the highlighting that indicated that
the text was selected turns off).  The only way to erase text now is to
place the cursor at the end of the text and 'backspace' over it.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Hi Zack-

I should let Clive answer this, as he is the editor of the work you cited,
but just in case he's away for the weekend... You have removed the check in
Word>Preferences>Edit>Typing Replaces Selection. Restore the check and all
should be well again.

I'll second that, CT! (Yes, I was away, but right now it's late Monday
morning in Australia.)   ;-)

Yup, that solved the problem.  Thanks!
