I'm trying to find a replacement for the "Calculate" command that was in Word 5.1. You could select a list of numbers (either in a table or not), choose Calculate from a menu, and then it would put the sum on the clipboard. Furthermore, you could type an arithmetic expression such as "2*3/4", choose Calculate, and it would compute the answer and put it on the clipboard. This was essential to the way I worked, and I haven't been able to find such a streamlined way of doing this in modern versions of Word. Does anyone know how to do this in Word X or 2004? Thanks. Hello [whoever], The capability is available in Word 2001 and Word 2004 (therefore probably Word X, but I skipped that version) from a "Tools Calculate" command. As in Word 5.1, it evaluates selected numbers as a mathematical expression and displays the result in the status bar (and the result is also in the clipboard, ready to be pasted where you want). You can select numbers by Option-dragging as well as by selecting paragraphs, cells or lines. The command is available via Tools menu -> Customize -> Commands tab [make sure "Normal" is in the "Appears in" pop-down window at bottom left] -> click on Tools in "Categories" scroll-box -> scroll to bottom of "Commands" scroll-box (because the items are not in alphabetical order) -> click on Tools Calculate -> drag to desired toolbar. For notes on adding a button to a toolbar, see page 46 of some notes on the way I use Word for the Mac, titled "Bend Word to Your Will", which are available as a free download from the Word MVPs' website (http://word.mvps.org/MacWordNew/Bend/BendWord.htm). I allocated the same keyboard shortcut as in Word 5.1 Command [equal sign].
