equation doesn't work~~~

Error Message:

Microsoft Office Word can't start the application required to open this
object.

An error occurred and this feature is no longer functioning properly. Would
you like to repair this feature now?

after I inserted the CD as instrution to "repair"~~
but still can't work~~
it says .................make sure the object is porperly installed

how to deal with this???

What version of Word?  Are you on a Mac?

Yes, I agree:  Versions are critical here...

If you have Word version 8 and you get a document from Word version 11 (Word
2003) it may contain an Equation Editor object from Equation Editor 2003.

Word version 8 (Word 97/98) will be able to open the document, but not the
equation.  It will ask for Equation Editor from the CD.

If you give it the Office 98 CD, it still won't find it, because it's
looking for Equation Editor 2003...
