I am typing in Word 2004 on my Macintosh, and as I type my name, Richard Tomkins, Word presents the Autotext to complete what I am typing. If I hit return to accept the text presented in a small yelow box, it inserts instead what seems to be a symbol of some kind that represents my name. It seems to be tied in to Entourage somehow. No matter what I do, the name is not completed properly. Other Autotext entries seem to complete properly. What do I need to do to adjust this behaviour? I have tried a few settings that suppsedly control what the complete contents of the Autotext entry would be when properly substituted, but instead, these adjustments just change a sequence ot two of characters at the end of the symbol inside the curly braces. Hi Richard- It sounds like you may be displaying fields in your doc. Try pressing Option+F9. Most of the other AutoText entries don't insert fields, but the one that inserts the username does. Another way of doing this would be to Choose "Word | Preferences" click on "View" and see if "Show Field Codes" checkbox is checked. If so, uncheck it. I did the Option F9 thing and it worked thankyou. Now I searched and searched all over for my answer before posting here, so how should I figure this out in the future, as the Help in Word was not. For in-depth information on Word, though, I usually buy PC versions, because there isn't a big enough Mac market to justify separate books on Word as distinct from Office. An example is Word 2003 Bible, Brent Heslop, David Angell and Peter Klent, Wiley Publishing. The Que series are also very good. Actually, it is in Help, but buried deeply amidst the material pertaining to the use of Fields. Unless one knows that's what their dealing with it is virtually impossible to find. Take a look at the recommendations from Clive. Most are available in libraries, so you might want to look them over before you actually buy. Each has a 'style' more preferable to some users than others.
