I use Word X, and have recently installed it on a computer running Tiger
10.4.2 (and have made recent software updates).
It always used to work fine. But now I can open Word files by Cmd-O and
the file selector, but double-clicking on them (or single-clicking and
Cmd-O) brings up Word but does not open a window with the file.
It's definitely a Word problem, as files belonging to other programs
open fine.
Any ideas as to what is happening, and how to cure it?

Hi Daniel-
May not be the fix, but the first two things to try...
1- Use Disk Utility to Repair Disk Permissions if you haven't already done
so. This should actually be done both before & after any installations or
updates.
2- Log out, then log back in, launch Word and see if the problem persists.
Also, does anything similar happen with other programs/files?
I don't use Office X, myself, but there are numerous regulars in the NG who
do. If this doesn't fix it, post back with the results & someone will help
you take it further.

Thanks, that seems to have solved it.

Hi Daniel,
Click on one of the Word files in the finder and do a Get Info (Cmd>i).
Where it says Open With, select (or navigate to and select) Word X. Click
Change All. That should do it.
