Hi Steven,
There were no changes to the Language Register in Office 11.2. Word 2004 is
Unicode aware so there is no need to register Word as Japanese to start
using Chinese characters. This is a change from Word X to Word 2004, but not
a change from Word 2004 to 11.2.
In order to better understand your scenario, I would like to clarify the
following:
1. What is your OS language?
2. What is your OS version?
Tiger? Panther? Older version?
3. In "Previously, inputting double-byte, non-roman characters." which Word
version are you referring to here?
4. Did you have to register Word as Japanese to enter Chinese characters
accurately in Word 2004?
5. Did you encounter problems entering Chinese characters in Word 2004
without registering as Japanese?
If so, then this could be a Unicode support issue which we would like to
further investigate.
Please let me know your answers so we can diagnose this behavior better.
Thanks,
Ritika [MSFT]

Thanks Ritka. For some reason, I was not aware of these changes.
OS Language: English
OS Version 10.4.2
Previous refers theoretically to Word 10
I believe that Word was registered in Japanese (assuming it had to be as in
Office 10)
I'll need to try entering Chinese characters while Word is registered in
English.
Most likely, there are no problems here. I should have just expressed my
surprise that after this issue has been resolved.
Oh, in the future will Word be made Unicode compliant instead of just aware?
This causes many problems using other applications and is far inferior to
Word on the PC side.
Thanks again.

Hi Steven,
Good to know that this is was just an awareness issue.
Please let me know your experience inputting Chinese characters in Word 2004
withouth registering as Japanese.
I am also interested in the problems experienced using Unicode characters in
Word 2004. It would be great if you could let me know instances where you
did not find Word Unicode-compliant and inferior to other applications.
We are constantly trying to improve Word for a better customer experience
and your input would further help us in doing so.
Thanks,
