I used to be able to double click onto a file and it would open automatically in the word/excel etc system.

With 2008, I have to go into 'File', then Open a file and search for the folder before being able to open it.

Can I go back to the easy old way of opening files??

Hi Mick -

It sounds like you've not yet applied the latest update  (12.1.1) for
Office. The issue surfaced with SP1 (12.1.0) & the subject has been widely
discussed in these groups as well as just about every other:-) Search the
subject if you're hungry for the details, but if you're just interested in
the "fix" plus some improvements use Help> Check for Updates & repair
permissions after applying it.
