Word 2004 Changing Text After Save

Hi all -- wondering if anybody has seen this:

Word 2004 on OSX -- a user types this line:  6:25 PM - 7:00 PM.  After she
types this line, it appears as it should, just as she typed it.  When she
saves the document, the "7:00 PM" text turns into the word "MEURE" --
actually, even when I change the text to any other time, it still comes up
MEURE.  When I replaced the dash with the word "to" this behavior was not
evident -- the word MEURE goes back to being the text I originally typed.  I
have unchecked autoformat for the dash character.  This behavior is not
exhibited on Word 2003 on an XP box.

This is crazy!  Anybody?

That is crazy, and makes no sense at all.

Have you looked in Tools | AutoCorrect to see if there is anything related?

Is this user using an English version of Office?  Are they typing in
English?

Look at the list of macros in Tools |Macros, and look for one that is
named Save.

Diagnostic tricks to help locate the cause of the problem:

1) create a new document and test. If the problem disappears, the
original doc is probably corrupt.

2) Log out of your user account, then hold down shift while logging back
in. If the problem disappears, it is probably due to some conflict with
the login items/utilities in your user account.

3) create a new user account in OS X and test in that one. If the
problem disappears, then the installation is fine but some user-specific
file has corrupted.

Thanks for your reply Daiya -- I did check to see that she was using the
English version, and she has no macros.  I turned all of the auto correct
features off as well.  I was not able to recreate the problem myself when I
created a new document, so I am inclined to believe it may have something to
do with her preferences/library.  I am waiting for her to come in so that I
can test that theory.  It has become a huge joke around here, though --
everyone is calling me MEURE.  I've been called worse.

Thanks again -- if I find anything out, I'll let you know.
