Word 2008, Mac OS 10.4.11 (Tiger)

After a loud public outcry, the MacBU mercifully introduced an option
to turn off display of the rather intrusive "AutoCorrect smart
button", the one with the red/yellow lightning bolt.

According to the "Description of preference" shown at the bottom of
the AutoCorrect panel, this option "Determines whether the AutoCorrect
smart button, which allows you to review the correction, appears when
an automatic correction occurs".

This seemed to work for automatic corrections included in the
AutoCorrect, AutoFormat as You Type, and AutoText tabs.

Until now.

I've just noticed that an automatic correction replacing "Symbol
characters with symbols", in my case replacing "====" with a solid
border line, will trigger display of the AutoCorrect smart button, in
spite of having clearly selected not to see it.

This is most defintely the button in question, lightning bolt
included. If I mouse over it, the tooltip reads "AutoCorrect Options".
And if it isn't, then it's an undocumented rogue button.

Anyone else seeing this?

Yeah, it looks like out of the several dozen actions that trigger the pesky
bugger they missed *2* the one for Symbol Characters with Symbols & the one
for Automatic Numbered Lists.

I'll submit a bug report on it, but use Help> Send Feedback to file a note
of your own:-)

Three, actually. Add Automatic Bulleted Lists to the list. :-)

Let us do both. I teach my kids that sharing is nice. :-)

By Golly you're right - but I swear I tried it before posting & the little
bugger *didn't* pop up. I'll add it to the list:-) Also - I mistakenly
referred to the Symbol Characters with Symbols item which *does not* trigger
the button - it's the Borders item that does.
