Nothing about the program has changed that would prevent those fundamental
techniques from working as usual. This is often the result of leaving the
program launched for ongoing periods of time.

Quit Word, repair disk permissions & if necessary restart your Mac. If
you've been in the habit of leaving Word running "24/7" I'd suggest you not
do so. Likewise, the Mac shouldn't be left to simply sleep when not in use.
It has to be restarted at least every couple of days in order for the OS to
do some "house cleaning":-)

If the above doesn't bring back your double- & triple-clicking effectiveness
please respond with more details including exact Office & OS X versions,
whether this is with *all* documents or just certain ones, whether other
selection techniques (such as dragging, clicking in the margin,
shift-clicking, etc.) function as they should, and any other details you can
supply. Does it happen only in Word? Have you installed any 3rd party
utility programs? Are you using something other than the standard Apple
mouse/touchpad? If so, what?
