Very strange problem. G4, 10.4.2, WVP 9 plays the subject movie without
any problem. My mate's iMac, 10.3.9, WMP 9 (origianlly installed months
ago and reinstalled today) plays the movie silently. /Library/Internet
Plugins/ on both machines contains the Windows Media Plugin 9.0. QT
movies play with sound-so speakers and sound settings work. I sent
her another wmv file which plays video and sound on my machine and it
plays silently on hers. When running the movie, GET INFO shows Windows
Media Audio 9 codec is media property. Any ideas? What exactly should I
delete before reinstalling?

Follow-up. Just saw the hint in "Windows Media Player and Mac Os10.4.2"
post about checking the audio output level with the Audio MIDI Setup
utility. I'll give that a try tomorrow. Hopefully, it's that simple

Problem fixed. However, the audio output was at 44.1, so I did the
following: deleted all WMP prefs, the internet plugin, and the
application. Repaired permissions, reinstalled WMP, repaired
permissins, launche GarageBand, launched WMP and changed some prefs,
relaunch WMP and reset the prefs to defaults, quit it, and ran the
sample movie w/SOUND. Don't know exactly what fixed what, but the
problem's solved.
