I'm an old Mac user somewhat confused with all the Unix stuff of OS X.
Can someone summarize what the problem is with WMP not running under
Tiger (if that problem is known) and any possible workarounds. I've
tried the usual with no consistent working results. WMP will work
occassionally but usually not more than once. Any takers?

If you don't mind spending $9.99, the best workaround is to use
Flip4Mac's WMV Player, which is a plug-in that lets you play Windows
Media in Quick Time Player. It also installs a browser plug-in for
Safari that can play embedded Windows Media using Quick Time. It works
wonderfully with Tiger, and I think it's really fantastic.

Personnally I don't see any difference between Tiger and Panther (it's
as good/bad).
Some people have reported issues under TIger, but I can''t figure out
whether it is circumstancial and was just agravated because of the
install process or whether there is anything deeper.
A previous post mentioned the following:

Now since as a user we don;t have the possibility to make these
modifications, I have no way to test it out on my own,

I had the same exact problem... the solution is to delete the windows media
folder with the app. icon, and the two windows media pref. in the
user/liabrary/pref. directory. When you go to emty out the trash ensure you
hold the sel. key down while you execute the emty trash cmd.; bare in mind
that if you on a notebood you likely have to hold both the fn key and the
alt/option key. Next... reinstall wmp, restart and you should be back in
action.
