WMP 9 and 10.4.1 -- some WMVs no longer play

WMP 9, OS 10.4.1, iMac G5.

WMP plays the sample file fine, but will not play .wmv and .asf files
that ran without problems on an iMac G4 with WMP 9.  Instead, WMP says
"The specified stream type is not recognized."

I've deleted prefs, plist, repaired permissions, and there are no
special characters in the file path.

Any other suggestions?  Any other repairs I've overlooked?

TIA.

Oops!  I was fiddling around and did find a special character -- I
still use "ƒ" to indicate folder name, a very old habit.  I deleted
that and the wmv files worked fine.

Hope this helps someone else...
