I am attempting to install Windows Media Player for
Macintosh OS X on my Power Mac G4 computer. Each time I
download the WMP file from the MSN Download Center, a
Windows Media.sitx document appears on the desktop. When
I click on the document to open, the following message
appears: "There is no application available to open the
document "Windows Media.sitx" I have tried this process
numerous times with no success. I do have Stuffit Expander
installed and available, but when I try to open the
document with Stiuffit Expander, I get the following
message: "The file "Windows Media.sitx" does not appear to
be compressed on encoded. It is advised that you obtain
further information about the contents of this file
from the sender or provider of the file".
Please advise what I should do to successfully install the
Windows Media Player 9 for Macintosh OS X in order to
receive streaming audio broadcasts.
In addition, I have tried to install Windows Media Player
7.1 for Macintosh OS 8.1 to 9.x in the Mac Classic
environment (using Mac OS 9.2.2), and although the
installation appears to be successful, when I try to access
a streaming audio broadcast, a Yahoo! Media Helper window
opens and indicates that the WMP still needs to be
installed. I have tried the installation numerous times
with no success.
On the latest attempt to install WMP 9 for Macintosh OS X,
I trashed all the Windows Media Player files located in the
Mac Classic (OS 9.2.2) applications folder, but to no avail.
Thank you, in advance, for any advice you may have in these
matters.

Two possible explanations:
- Stuffit Expander is not up to date on your Mac (it should be .0.1).
- the file got corrupted in the transfer. You need to re-dpwnlaod it and
preferably with another browser to avoid getting the same corrupted file
from the cache.
