I've posted this before, got no answer, trying again. I have a problem, many
others I know do too. My Windows friends are all able to both see and hear a
large number of files using WMPbut on my Mac using WMP 9.0 for OS X, I can
see them but hear nothing. The answer that some give, that it was recorded
with an unsupported CODEC, isn't a satisfying answer. After all, it appears
that the vast majority of these files which people are watching, emailing
around, etc. don't play audio on Macs. Why would Microsoft even bother to
develop a new version for OS X if it doesn't play sound? Actually, that's
not my question, it's simply is there some workaround that I should do so I
can both see and hear these in the future?

Hi Larry,

Well it's an explanation.

Some of them do. It really depends on what codec is used to create the
file.

That's a very good question! There are actually two problems there: Many
features are simply broken in WMP9 (they *should* be there but they
simply don't work). And many (basic?) features have not been implemented
(like the support for the codecs you need).

Well if the problem you have is that the codec is not supported by WMP9:
No! If there is no support for the codecs, there is nothing you can do
to add it.

Write a complain on either (or both) of these pages:
http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/community/wish.aspx
The more they'll get, the better the chances they'll some day realize
that the product they deliver clearly does npt satisfy their
customers.... The problem is that WMP is a free software.... I hope the
people who use WMP streaming and rely on it for their business could
complain to MS that their Mac customers can't play the files.... That
could have a better impact on them.

Thanks. I did just what you suggested at both links. I think I did that a
year ago, hope they pay attention this time!
