I haven't used this version of WMP for quite a while, but I suspect you
can't.... I hope someone will prove me wrong though :-\

It may be possible to save those archived programs in Mac OS 9, in a
round-about way, assuming one either has a download manager or IE 5.1
installed.

First, save the Web page containing the links and look for the programs'
URLs. One at a time, highlight each URL and drag it into the download
manager or IE's download manager window. Downloading should commence.
Once those files have been saved to the hard drive, they should be fine
to play.

I don't know if you can "drop" URLs onto Netscape's download manager or
not; I've never tried it. I have used the download manager and/or IE's
download manager trick before though.

Yeah, but that won't work with most mms:// streams :-\ only with .wma
files.
I was thinking of softwares like Audio Highjack for instance, but I
don;t know many software for MacOS 9 that can take a streaming audio and
convert it to mp3.

For streams, I use shareware audio recording/editing apps such as Sound
Studio ( http://www.felttip.com ) or Amadeus II (
http://www.hairersoft.com ). They both have timed recording start
functions that can be useful for unattended recordings.

As for capturing the sound, an interconnect from the sound out port to
the sound in port and setting the recording apps to capture the sound in
port's signal will work. Just make sure that any "playthroughs" are
turned off in the recorders' preferences, or else feedback will result.

I'm not sure if un*x type CLI apps, such as StreamRipper, were ever
ported to OS 9.

Yeah, that's a very good option.
It requires some editing at the end, but still.

Actually, I'm really more sophisticated in my stream grabbing
capabilities. I've installed a sound card and reroute all audio apps,
sans system alerts, through the sound card's software mixer. Cleaner
sounding audio without the hassle of getting on my hands and knees,
fumbling under the desk/cabinet just to plug in the interconnect.

:)
