!!! not only was my post erased from this board, it looks
like microsoft also removed the url that my post
referenced.  can someone from microsoft contact me about
this at webmaster@extremefineart.com.  i have a number of
users that are using mac os 9 and this is very important.
also why was my post removed?!?!?

it clearly states that version 9 codec is supported by
media player 7.1 on
(Link:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/9series/codec
)
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/9series/codec

s/compatibility.aspx

under: "Windows Media Video 9"
under: "General"
under: "Plays in Windows Media Player 6.4 and later."
reads: "Codec downloads automatically in Windows Media
Player 6.4 and later."

can anyone comfirm that 9 codecs do infact play
correctly
in this environment?

if so are any reasons it would have problems? do users
need to adjust any settings etc?

thanks in advance,
-nar "

That's weird. It's the frist time I hear that MS would have deleted a
post (except for spam).
Are you sure it's not a problem with a relay server that would not have
been up to date ??? At least this time the message was posted and stayed
on the newsgroup.

Well, I don;t have WMP7 on my Mac anymore (only 9) but I have no reason
to doubt it. Nevertheless, this statement seems to apply to the Windows
version of WMP...

I went to the MS web site and even though I had no problem finding out
what codecs were supported in WMP9 for MacOS X, I couldn't find the same
information for WMP 7.1 for MacOS 9.

It could be that the codecs are simply not supported in MacOS 9 :-\

I had the exact same complaint about this. Why did Microsoft change the
codec, then not update the player? There must be some kind of conspiracy
going on against Mac OS Classic. I sent a request to Microsoft to fix
this. I suggest others send them a complaint also.

Go to:  http://www.microsoft.com/mac/contactus.aspx
Select Menu:  Media Player
Checkbox:  Interoperability or Integration

Ask for Windows Media Video 9 compatibility with Mac OS Classic.

A conspiracy against MacOS Classic ??? There sure is one. It started when
Steve Jobs officially declared it dead :-(
MS followed up a little later (like many other companies) saying they'd stop
developing for MacOS pre-X.

I think that this will never happen :-(
and to be honest, I'd first want to get everything we had in 7.1 (MacOS 9) in
WMP9 (many codecs didn't make it) and then get on to new features in the new
version...
