When I try to play avi files on WMP 11, I get sound but no video, how do I
get it to play the video portion of the file?

If the video isn't using DivX codec (download and install this to try
http://www.divx.com/divx/windows/codec/ ) then you'd need to identify
which codec is requred for the video inside the AVI file.
GSpot is a program that can identify codec requirements :

Post what it reports for the video codec here, and we can probably
suggest something to decode the video in media player.

You need to DL DivX and that will play the video for you ^_^
