Hi! ´
I was running WMP10 and WMC 2 with Roku Soundbridge without problems. But
suddenly it stopped working and I don't know what to do.
See attached threads with Roku support. I have no idea how to solve this.
Computer and Network information:
Operating System: Windows XP Service Pack 2
Network Equipment: Windows Firewall is turned off.
Router = D-Link 824 VUP+
WMP 11
SoundBridge 2,7
Problem/Inquiry Description:

Tobias,
I have some WMP11 troubleshooting tips.
-what spyware software do you have?
-What antivirus do you have?
Troubleshooting Windows Media Player 11
--------------------------------------------------------------
1. Try Disabling and Enabling Sharing again
a. Go to Library, and choose Media Sharing
b. Uncheck the box next to "Share Media as".
c. Choose yes to disable for all users.
d. Quit Windows Media Player
e. Reopen Windows Media Player, enable sharing again.
2. Try Renaming the Share
a. Open WMP11
b. Go to Library and choose Media Sharing
c. Click on Settings
d. Change the name under, "Share Media As"
3. Verify these ports are open in your firewall
There should be 6 entries for Windows Media in the Exceptions tab of Windows
Firewall
-Ports: 10284, 10283, 10282, , 10281, 10280 - UDP
-Ports: 10243 - TCP
-Verify UPNP Framework is checked under exceptions. (UDP 1900, TCP 2869)
4. Restart the SSDP Discover service
First, you must quit Windows Media Player.
a. Open up Control Panels (on the Start menu)
b. If you're in Category View, select Performance and Maintenance c. Select
Administrative Tools d. Select Services e. Scroll down to SSDP discover
service f. Stop it, and restart it.
5.Please download and install Firefly from www.rokulabs.com as a temporary
solution. This simple music server runs in the background.

Staff/HelpDesk Administrator -] Lyndon,
I've tried everything you supposed, but the PC still doesn't find my
Soundbridge.
Strangely, I've succeded sharing my files from the Laptop.
My stationary PC has no firewall (except for the router, but that's the same
as the Laptop).
Any other clue?

The fact that the laptop works tells us the problem isn't with the
soundbridge or the router. There's something on the pc that's causing
problems.
Did you try downloading firefly, and seeing if we could get the soundbridge
to see firefly?
What antivirus software or spyware software do you have on the pc? Some
include firewall functionality.
Let's check your system logs to see if we can find any errors:
Checking Windows Logs
-----------------------
Check your windows logs to see if there are any entries that refer to the
firefly or your soundbridge.
a. right click on my computer and choose manage
b. Under system tools, select Event viewer
i. Windows Media - Under System viewer, check for entries for WMPnetworksvc
c. Under Security, check for any entries mentioning the soundbridge or a
port being blocked. These entries would have a yellow or red icon.
Do you use internet connection sharing?
Please check if you have a DRM folder. If you do, see the directions at the
link below. Clean out DRM folder

Staff/HelpDesk Administrator -] Hi again,
I installed FireFly, but my Soundbridge doesn't find it.
Windows FireWall is turned off.
Ad-Aware from LavaSoft used as SpyWare, but is also turned off.
Tried to check Windows Log, but didn't understand what to look for...
I do use internet connection sharing.
Best regards

1. Internet Sharing
Windows Media Player 11 and media sharing don't work together with internet
connection sharing.
In your network connections folder, go to properties for your primary
connection, the one that's shared, click on the advanced tab, and uncheck the
box sharing your connection.
Then, disabling sharing in windows media player, and enable it again.
Restart the soundbridge, and try connecting again.
2. For the windows logs, were you able to get to the event viewer? IF yes,
all I want you to do is open the different logs (application, system, etc)
and see if any of the entries listed (there will be multiple lines) has
wmpnetworksvc in the source column. If you see it listed, does it have a blue
icon in the far left column, or a red, or yellow.
3 For Firefly, is it listed in your system tray? IF you put the mouse over
the firefly icon, does it stay firefly is started.

Staff/HelpDesk Administrator -] Hello again,
1. I have now disabled the sharing.
2. Yes, I got to the windows log, and the WMPNetworkSVC has blue
"information" icons 3. When I put the mouse over FireFly it says "The FireFly
Media server is not currently running". But when I double-click it the
Library is correct for Media, Server Status says "The Firefly media server is
currently running" (the checkbox is checked) server port numer 9999.

Tobias,
Please email me the contents of your firefly log. I'm including a link to an
updated version of firefly to see if it performs better. If neither firefly
nor windows media player is working, it points more toward some security
issue. I know you've turned off the firewall, but something is getting in the
way of the software.
Do you have a second computer, we could test temporarily as the media
server? It doesn't need any content. We just need to see if the soundbridge
will connect to the media server on that computer. It will confirm if the
problem is definitely something on the computer we're trying to use.
Also, I'm including a link to a different way to disable the windows firewall.

Disabling firewall -

I've seen cases where windows media sharing just stops working. Sometimes,
the only solution is to uninstall wmp 11 and reinstall version 10. And, then
upgrade again, after you have sharing working in version 10.

Staff/HelpDesk Administrator -] Hello again,
First of all - I've allready told you my Laptop Works with WMP11.
I have reinstalled FireFly from the link you sent, and attach the log file.
I have also done a System Restore, reinstalled WMP10 and WMC. Nothing works.
I attach the WMC log file.
I did disable the FireWall in accordance to the link you gave me.
WMC is now recognising the Soundbridge, but still the Soundbridge doesn't
find my library.

Tobias,
We've already confirmed your router and soundbridge are working properly,
because streaming works from your laptop.
-You've tried another program in firefly, which says it's up and running
-Your windows media player log says WMP is working properly -You've tried
downgrading to WMP10, and windows media connect
I'm going to have someone else review your case, but I don't believe there's
anything we haven't checked. There's a problem on your system, and I've been
unable to locate it.
Please try the following to make sure your firewall is completely off.
1. Go to the start menu.
2. choose run.
3. Type in the following and hit enter: services.msc
4. Scroll down to windows firewall/Internet connection sharing service 5.
Select this service, and go to properties 6. Choose disable, and then restart
The only thing I can suggest at this point is contacting microsoft to see
what the problem could be. At this point, the next thing I would do on that
system is a clean install of your operating system, not installing over the
existing setup. I'll reply with any additional suggestions once I've had your
case reviewed.

Staff/HelpDesk Administrator -] Hi again, Lyndon!
I tried the services.msc but with no success.
Will somebody get back to me when you pass this further?
Anyway, many thanks for your efforts and quick responses to my questions.

Tobias,
I will update you when I have more information.
I still recommend contact microsoft about the WMP streaming problems. I will
continue researching this issue.
There are some other servers you can install and try. For example, you can
download and install rhapsody. It's similar server to windows media player.
