Why can't I get WMP9 to work?

I am running OS X 10.4.8 and have downloaded the WMP9 for Mac. Although the
application opens, it will not accept any streams or open URL's. It won't
even play the sample movie that downloads with it. When I try to sample music
tracks via Amazon, a separate window opens that appears to be loading, but
nothing happens. Even with the WMP open, nothing is directed to it! I'm
frustrated. Why can't I get this to work? Any advice?

WMP is extremely buggy.
There is a FAQ for the app (though it's getting a little antiquated),
but you hsould really install the Flip4Mac WMV codecs instead. They
bring Windows Media support to QuickTime and solve most of the problems
we, Mac users, have with WMP9.
MS completely abandonned support for WMP9 and they even re-distribute
the codecs themselves. Give it a try,

Yeah, the codecs are pretty nice. They don't support DRM-protected files
or streams, but the support is so bad in WMP9 anyway that it should
replace it rather well,
