I have downloaded, unstuffed and used the Installer to install Windows Media
Player 9 onto my iMac. However, when I click on media links at CNN.com (and
other web sites) the media files don't open. Instead I get a pop-up window
that says CNN.com is optimized for Windows Media Player 9 or above, and
suggests I download this player...which I already have. My browser is Safari
2.0.3. There is a dearth of information on Macs at Microsoft's web site, so I
haven't found any suggestions there. Can anyone tell me if there is another
step I need to follow in order to successfully complete the installation?

Try installing the Flip4Mac WMV codecs for QuickTime instead:
